Where, when and why did you start snowboarding?
I started snowboarding when I was 9-10 years old. My brother went to buy a snowboard with my father and there was some kind of sale: - If you buy a board you'll get another one for a really cheap prize! - So my father decided to buy a board for me too. :) I started my snowboarding career in Vihti ski which is a small resort close to my home.
When did you realize you want to become a pro snowboarder?
I'm not sure, I think it was four years ago when I signed my first sponsor contract. Before that I didn't really think about it.
What’s your favourite terrain right now and where do you want to improve in the future?
I like to ride all kind of things but if I have to pick one I would say halfpipe because there is very rarely possibility to ride good halfpipe.
What’s the best/worst thing about being a pro snowboarder?
The best is travelling and the worst is still travelling. I really like travelling and it's always nice to see new places and meet new people but sometimes I am really tired of it, if I have been three months on the road and I have had to change the place every week... But of course good things beat bad things easily.
Who are your influences in the sport itself and in life in general?
In the past I travelled a lot of with Markku Koski and Miikka Hast, so I have learned a lot from those guys about life and about snowboarding.
Is it true that you are into horse riding/racing and that you’ve got a pretty solid gold swing?
Yes, I am into horse racing in the summer time and it is so much fun! It might be my future profession. I also play golf in summer but I'm not sure about my swing, pretty awful I guess. :)
Why are there so many Scandinavians on top of the game in the world of snowboarding?
We have small hills here in Scandinavia, so if you ride few hours you are able to jump hundred times, but if you ride in the middle of Europe the lift way takes already half an hour.
