Steffi fought for every point in a dramatic home GP!
Leading the championship with 42 points in front of second place Livia Lancelot; there would be no pressure to diffent her lead on
home country. But a big crash on Saturday distroyed all hopes of a double victory.
On the end of day; Steffi could still keep an advantage of 40 points in the World Championship standings and this with only 2 rounds to go.
The win went to Larissa Papenmeier; for Fontanesi and Livia Lancelot. After having a really relaxed Friday, a crash put a dark cloud over Saturday training. Steffi did wanted to put a fast time on the table but she made a big crash in the 2nd
lap. She did hurt her shoulder and head. At that moment there was a lot of pain. After having a good look
by the doctor it all looked ok!
It would be a bruising of her shoulder. But she would be able to ride...
Race 1: After getting 3th place in the first corner it would be pushing to get to that lead again. At that
moment it was Larissa Papenmeier who did lead the race before Livia Lancelot. In the middle of the race
she was able to pass Livia and put the pressure on Larissa. She tried to get pass but Larissa could counter
every attack. Larissa did win the race before Steffi and Livia.
We all looked to Sunday and hoped the pain didn’t get worse after a night sleep. It all looke pretty stiff but
she looked smooth in the morning warming up!
Race 2: After having a super start; Steffi took the lead of the pack. After 2 laps some riders did crash on a
line in the track. Steffi did crash because she had to take another line to keep going. She crashed with it.
Even 3 riders did ride straight over her. She did hurt her head again and e saw she had a really dfficult time
to keep it focused. But the German tiger didn’t give up and did fight her way up on to 5th position.
The win would go to Fontanesi before Papenmeier and Livia Lancelot.
Steffi's comment:" I am disappointed about this weekend. I had a good preparation during the weeks and I
really looked forward to ride in my home country. I crashed hard in the time practice and I think I had a little
concussion. I really didn’t feel good on the bike in the first moto.
Today I had a good feeling on the bike again. In the race I had to change my line because of a rider who
crashed. I did went over my handlebars, then there came 3 riders and hit my helmet. I think I had again a
concussion. I was dizzy on the bike and I tried to stay calm and finish my race.
The good thing is that I didn’t lose to much points. I am still leading with 40 points so it looks good!”
